Replacing Door Casing

Hey everyone!  Man I feel like it's been FOREVER since I posted last!  Well, I have a BIG project I'm in the middle of but I thought I'd post parts of the whole thing.  I'm changing the look of my entry way! I'm absolutely LOVING how it's turning out!

The first thing I had to do was replace the front closet door casing so that it matched the rest of the house.  (I think there are only 4 more that I have to replace for all of the door frames in my house to be replaced!)

Here is was it looked like BEFORE.  Just plain, basic casing... BOR-ING!
Time to say goodbye to boring. I ripped off the old casing and pulled out any lingering nails.
I nailed up the rosettes first.
 Then added the top piece.
 Then the sides.
The new casing was 1/2" wider than the old, so I had to pry off the base molding and trim it down 1/2"
I nailed it in place and it was complete.
I'll show it painted later.  For now this is all your getting!

Lots o' love,

Megan

D's Room Makeover - Ugly Chair Re-do

D didn't have any furniture in her room besides a twin bed and a nightstand. (original post) I wanted to give her a place to sit to tie her shoes, to play her guitar, or just a place to toss her jacket.

I went to the local DI and found this. It is a metal frame chair with plastic seat and back. Ew! I liked the shape and it was only $4! Score!  My sister and mom were like, "Why on Earth would she get THAT chair...there's no hope!"

Well, look at me now! This was such an EASY makeover it was silly!

I unscrewed the seat, and the back rest just popped right out.
I spray painted the metal frame in Heirloom White.
I took the plastic off the seat.
The foam was still in good condition so I reused it.
I covered it with this damask scrap that my sister had.
Then I screwed it back in place.
For the back I used spray adhesive and covered it and popped it back in place.
Last, I bought the green trim from JoAnn's to finish it off.

I LOVE how it turned out!

What have you beautified lately?

Lots o' love,

Megan

D's Room Makeover

While we were on vacation last month I heard of a whole house makeover that was taking place for a VERY deserving single mom and her kids.  My mom was in charge of the 19 year-old girl's room.  I only had a couple days so I knew I couldn't see the room from start to finish, but I had to jump in and help!

I went to the home and checked out the girl's bedroom.  It was very bright (black trim, fluorescent green and turquoise paint), and totally teen.  But this young lady wanted a change to something more feminine, mature, and it had to have roses.  She wanted pinks, greens, yellows, and reds.

Her room was pretty small...but so are all the rooms in my house so I was used to that.  I thought of a quick design and layout that would work for her room and sketched it out.  They really liked it.  So I had a plan!

It involved:
Better Homes And Garden Bedding Tufted 4-Piece Comforter Set
Better Homes and Gardens Sedona Red Tufted Bedding

BEHR Ultra 8 oz. Wickerware Interior/Exterior Paint Tester # 360C-2
Behr Wickerware paint
basic board and batten
Board and Batten

And of course a trip to the local DI thrift store!

Stay tuned for a couple projects I completed for her!

Lots o love,

Master Bedroom Makeover thoughts

So a couple months ago The Hubs and I decided it was time for a new bedding set.  After many Internet search sessions and store trips, I think The Hubs was D-U-N-done! He saw this one and said I like it lets just get this one!
So we did.  I grabbed the Cal King size and headed to the register...not LOVING it at all...but still it was nice...I just wanted something else ENTIRELY...but it's not just my room, so we compromise.  As I'm in line at the register I notice it's martha stewart...YUCK!!! I cannot STAND her and it almost makes me put it back, but the look on The Hubs' face had me staying in that line! ;o)

Now don't get me wrong...it does look good in the picture, but in our room in real life...it looks like army camo.  Our room is so small and brown, that it doesn't look good. AT. ALL.

I know there is HUGE potential here, and I know our room can look great so I've been thinking of painting gray and white stripes.

At first I was thinking of painting it like the stripes in Landee's dining room like this.
But now I'm thinking I'll just use the same colors that Landee used, but in the pattern like this from Centsational Girl's staged townhouse adventures.
I like the varying height of the stripes.

What do you think?
